I know there are some die-hards out there, that put them in bullet proof display cases, but I'm interested in seeing how some of you store your collections. Personally, I use 2x2 Mylar flaps. I steer away from the cardboard flips in most cases. In the rear pocket I always include information about the coin (date, mint, grade, and purchase amount). I'm looking for some good ideas how to store, as well as display them. THANKS!
I store my prized coins and all silver dollars in Air-tites (not Ikes) and unless it is slabbed or in a set of some kind, it is in a 2x2 or a folder/dansco
Albums, capital plastics, slabs are my preferences. I also have some in cardboard 2x2s and airtites. I used layers of extra layer protection, such as a food safe tupperware container, silverware box, or archival scrapbooking box, then also use zip lock food bags, plus dessicant. Public display needs to be considered carefully. I believe that the number one way collections are lost are thru theft by someone who knows the collector. Public display only invites that, as does open public discussion. If someone does ask the "how much" question, I now almost answer "a few dollars." No one needs to know how much I spent, and when stories get repeated the dollar amounts often go up many multiples.
2x2s mylar flips, my awesome Indian Head Penny collection is in a Dansco, and wheats, state quarters in a Littleton folder
Oh, also something now I've been doing with my Presidential Dollar collection is buying proof set lenses and putting the satin finish and unc. P and D sets in the lenses, so they are all displayed together and I can see the edges.
I like direct fit for modern coinage, with rounded edges, not sharp, and for silver coins pre-1964, I like black ring.
