Hi Everyone! New visitor here. I found this coin at the bottom of a box at a flea market over the weekend. All signs point to it being sterling silver. However, I cannot find any information regarding the coin anywhere on the internet. Does anyone have any additional information about the coin or what it is worth? I purchased it for $15 assuming the silver value, not knowing anything else. The front reads "1961 Civil War Centennial" and the back reads "1961 Convention of the Appalachian Confederation of coin clubs Knoxville Tennessee" Thanks!

You may have seen this already... http://www.coincommunity.org/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-3293 It says the coin is "Brass 33mm 12.4 Grms Issued for Civil War Centennial" If yours is indeed, silver, there may be some folks (this guy, for instance) that may be interested. Also, there are quite a few coin dealers in the Knoxville area that have been in business since the 1960's. You may want to send them an email with pictures of your coin. They may have some additional information...or some more you can buy!
First, welcome to the neighborhood! This is not a coin. It is a medal. All signs point to it being sterling silver What leads you to believe this? Did you try the "ring" test or the "magnetic" test? Even so, these wouldn't be an indicator that it is sterling silver (92.5%) over 90% silver or even 99.9% silver. Chris
