First one i agree with the first guy, MS-65 Prooflike.

  6. I'm no MS grader, but I would say 66PL & 65*. Ether way nice clean cheeks on both and a toned '21 is tough. Nice pickups. By the way, I'm not to far from Hanover myself.

Really? I like it here for the most part, though they need some places to actually buy some items besides the overpriced antique shops here..

    I really liked the toned 21 especially..~

  8. Steinmetz is in York and Lancaster, but I have not gone to either. There is another dealer outside of York that is an older type dealer. He doesn't keep too much certified material in stock. He has a ton of raw coins though. I've only gone through a minor part of his Seated and barber material, but he has a lot. The pieces I did buy were priced right about retail.

Both morgans are ngc certs already so I would expect the tone on the 21 is real and not forced. I was just seeing what others thought they might grade and maybe if they might be worth getting re-graded or perhaps cross. Will reveal the grades this evening...

I kind of think NGC would have noted that on the label if the tone were AT and not NT.

I can believe they are both 65. So 65 PL and 65 (*?).

As it is now evening in my neck of the woods.. I will post the grades...

Both are in NGC holders and I wonder if after seeing the grades already given is there a possibility that either could cross for something higher or get them re-graded by NGC and hope to increase the grades further? Just curious on those possibilities... I suppose there is no way to determine when these were graded is there?

    1880s MS65
    1921 MS64* There are only 19 given a star in this grade with only 12 MS65* and 7 MS66*

    At least I got 1-1/2 right. :)

I am not an NGC member, but I would think you could run the cert # and find out when it was graded.

I've run cert numbers for lots of items and I don't ever remember seeing a listing for the date graded...
Lots of answers were on and or very close.. Which makes me feel good about the purchase and the look of both...

When trying to judge the grade of a coin from the internet, I was once taught to look at the median grade in population. NGC shows the highest number of graded 1880 S in MS 64 at 48,221. Pop in 63 is 18,070 and 65 is 30,633. Since I don't have the coin in hand, and I have no reason to see why it couldn't be a 64 with that nice cheek, I'm going to say it is a 64 based on the population odds theory.

Sorry for the delay in my reply, these are currently graded by ngc as,

    1880s MS65
    1921 MS64* There are only 19 given a star in this grade with only 12 MS65* and 7 MS66*

I was curious if they would cross and if so, would they possible grade better or same or worse...
