OK, so I am trying to move one of my sets into something other than 2x2s...which it is currently in. I would love to have an album...but it is for German coins and I haven't found one that I like. I was thinking a good way to do it would be airtites...plus some of the coins are in slabs...so I was thinking that maybe there was someway to use slab pages but have an insert in each slab compartment that holds a couple airtites. Has anyone ever tried this or better yet are there inserts out there already?

    Cam,

Eagle has the plastic pages for 2x2's and slabs, but I don't recommend either of them. For one thing, they're too danged expensive, and for that kind of money, you'd expect them to last a while. The problem is that if you are constantly moving AirTites or slabs around to make room for others or just to take photos from time to time, the plastic usually starts cracking at the holes for the 3-ring binder and the "slat" over each compartment to keep them in place. I've had to trash about $150 worth of these pages because of this.

I still have pages which haven't broken yet, and I use them only for 2x2's and flips because they can be removed easily without putting pressure on the plastic. I've also found that the best thing to use to store the pages are the zippered portfolios because they can hold the pages firmly inside (when closed) which relieves the pressure (from the weight of the coins) on the 3-ring holes. The drawback to the portfolios is that each one costs $30+.

All things considered, any way you look at it, it's an expensive proposition.

I really wish I could just find a setup to display my airtities by them selves...only a few are in slabs and that's OK. Has anyone ever tried to put airtities in books...like blank Dansco albums?

I put my raw coins within AirTites and then in 2.5x2.5 holders (commonly used for ASE's). Although U.S. Silver Dollars are a tough fit, it works well. I then find the mylar pages that you are able to insert into a 3-ringed binder, fixed with 2.5x2.5 slots, and store them in my safe. Though, I havn't touched them in a while. I've been purchasing alot of slabbed stuff recently. :)

    Cam,

How about a nice curio cabinet with two lighted compartments, mirrored back and locking doors crafted by the Amish in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania? It has seven curved-glass shelves that are adjustable. I used it for my shotglasses with a 6" spacing between shelves. You could use those small plastic "tripod" stands, one for each AirTite. You could use the upper compartment for displaying larger items. I'd sell it for $1K, but you'd have to drive to Florida to get it.

I use self slabs for the size coin I am storing. I use top loader pages for baseball cards to hold the slabs. Makes a nice album.
Have to be careful because tops are open you have to use something to secure them so slabs don't fall out if you turn the book up side down. I am using a very small piece of tape on mine, but some people don't like to have tape around coins. It looks nice and neat.
    Just what I am doing.

Does that mean if you liked it that you would drive to Florida to pick it up? It's only 49 hours non-stop from here to Portland.
