    This is the flip side of the foreign bill that I can not identify. You might have a problem also as the words came out in reverse, and of course they are in a foreigh language.

    De Orc;

    FYI - You put me on the right track. It is a Russian note. Actually it is a 1909 Russian 5 Ruble Imperial note.

    Thank you for the aid

    You bet they are. The only problem is, is that they are sooooooo paper thin. (no Pun here). The one I have and I guess they are all the same is like tissue paper. I was going to scan it out of the plastic holder, but realized it was so thin, I might tear it getting it out, so I left well enough alone. In any case I am grateful to you for the help in identification.

    Thanks;

    Now that is different as the ones the Mrs has are fairly robust, wonder if they were printed at a different printing works ?

    Mojavedave,the 1909-dated Russian notes were even printed under the Communists in 1918.The only way that you can tell that your 5 Roubles is the Czarist one is by looking up in the Pick catalogue of notes up to 1960.It has a note telling you what the serial number ranges are.

    Hi ! Aidan Work,

    I do not have have the Catalogue you speak of, but if you or someone else has it could you please notify me if this is before or after the revolution ? I suppose you mean the YA-049 serial number, is that correct ?

    Hi ! De Orc,

    Well, that is certainly interesting. Now I wonder how I would determine where this was printed. Does anyone else have a 5 ruble note that is tissue thin ? I can't imagine how something that appears this fragil could be used for circulation.

    Bill is P35- the issue of 1917 which is similar to the pre-revolutionary issue. The give-away is the serial no.
    The earlier series has a full serial no. This issue has just the 2 letters and 3 numbers. Issues including YA044 and higher are Soviet government issues. I can confirm that the paper is very thin .
