I can't swear to what the criteria are today, but as it is with all other special designations, NGC always had the tougher criteria. It used to be that NGC required 6-8" of reflectivity for DMPL and PCGS required 4-6" of reflectivity for DMPL. The old ANACS even had a UDMPL (ultra DMPL) that required 8-12" of reflectivity. That was the toughest criteria there was.
I thought the standards recently changed- 2" for PL, 4" for DMPL? I was speaking with a dealer about this at the Ontario Coin Show here in SoCal just a few weeks ago. The conversation initially started because I had gotten in an "arrgument" with a dealer regarding the fact that DPL (NGC) and DMPL (PCGS) were the same (yet I suppose it is all subjective), just with different slab attributions. -Brian
1. I was setup at Ontario, you should have come said hi. 2. DPL and DMPL are the same. 3. The grading companies have different standards. I have not heard of 2" before for a PL, I think they are stricter than that.
