Hey everyone. I just went with my parents to their safety deposit box and found an envelop with my name on it. It contained ten 1963 one dollar bills that my grandma gave me when I was born. She told my mom they were important, because their serial numbers are all in a right in a row (she used to work at a bank). So basically I have: G52618927D G52618928D G52618929D ect... G52618934D G52618935D They are all crisp and definitely uncirculated. Just wondering if these are something I should hold on to, or if they are worth anything. I appreciate any comments! Thanks.
Steph- Welcome to Cointalk. It would be great (and helpful) if you could post a few pics of the notes so we can take a look. I'll let some of the others here comment on the value. They don't have a low or fancy serial number but they are consecutives so you have that going in your favor. Also, is it 1963 or 1963B?
Neither. With a G..D block, they have to be 1963A. But I don't have a book handy to look up a value, I'm afraid.
Definately keepers. They are worth more than face value for sure. Don't get me wrong, they won't make you rich... You might even decide that they are worth more to you because they were from your grandma. I bet your future grandkids might like to have them one day... or you could just sell them.
Book value is $4 in some guides, and $5 in others. I checked currency dealers websites, and they are selling for $4.50 each, which means the dealer probably paid $2-$3 each, maybe less. I don't believe consecutive serials will add much to the value. I like the thinking of "ratio411", and put'em away for later......WELCOME to Coin Talk Steph
Agreed! Nothing wrong with having something that is worth 4-7 times face, that is NOT also driven by an intrinsic value. Welcome!!!
Thanks for all the replies, I really appreciate it. The bills are series A 1963, if you were interested. I have decided to hold onto them for awhile, because they do have some sentimental value. Passing them on isn't a bad idea! Once again, thanks for your opinions!
