You are not bothering me. I am just saying the more you announce it to the world the more likely they are to find you.

They do after you have spent over $10,000 you have to hook up to your checking account. You start out with a credit card then they want your banking information. Ever since I found that out I've been thinking about it. Oh, you can give up your banking info or apply for their credit card. Quite a system but what ya gonna do. Here's a copy of the email with particulars deleted.

    Dear fretboard

We wanted to let you know that you're just $222.08 USD away from hitting your initial PayPal sending limit of $10,000.00 USD. This is the maximum amount of money you can send or use for purchases before you need to become Verified.

Why do I need to verify my account?

We place initial limits on all accounts to increase security and help prevent fraud. Once you link and confirm a bank account or get approved for PayPal credit, your account will be Verified and you'll be able to make as many payments as you like with PayPal. [TABLE="width: 580"]

[TD="bgcolor: #E8F1FA"]How do I get Verified and remove my sending limit?

    • Log in to your PayPal account at www.paypal.com and click Get Verified at the top of the page.
    • Follow the instructions to link your bank account to your PayPal account. We'll deposit 2 small amounts in your bank account to confirm that it's yours.
    • Check your bank statement in 2-3 days and note the 2 amounts. Then log back in to your PayPal account and enter these amounts.

I have been bank account verified with PayPal for over 10 years now. I have never had any problems. Always smooth fast transactions.

No, it's not a problem. I'm just showing everyone what they will get someday. I will probably just apply for their credit card. I sold for a few months in a row and I'm taking a break from it all. That means I'm taking a break from all of it. When I want to sell again I will give PP what they're asking for.

I connected paypal to a savings account I have. That way I hopefully can't lose more than is in the savings account. I just move money to the savings account, then to paypal when I need to replenish the balance.

Glad to hear it. When I called them I was told it would have to be a checking account, idiots!! Savings account is much better, for me anyways. :thumb:

I think some people open a minimum balance, no fee savings account at a new bank and use that for paypal. The only annoying part is that you have to change the settings on paypal for every purchase if you want to continue to use your credit card to make purchases. They have it set so that it automatically withdrawals from you bank account. I find it a little deceptive as it is easy to forget and not clearly highlighted each time you use it. Don't get me wrong, I don't think they are doing anything illegal, just sneaky.

I just sent them my savings info, in a week or so I will be verified too, not that I wanted to be but it's better than having to get their credit card I guess. Sneaky is right!

I know, but the alternatives I use have higher fees if you receive payments in small amounts. I ended up with less from Moneybookers than with Paypal...and Moneybookers is the only alternative that advertises a lower percentage fee.

Yes, definitely be careful when sending any PayPal payments online. They will use any excuse they can think of not to support you should anything go wrong. Their customer service is a joke as well. Aside from them being a pretty crappy company, their payment method service works very well. Definitely a monopoly in the online payment industry, though.
