I bought 10 sets from the mint in 1996. They were $8.00 per set. I actually thought the W dime would be worth much more by now.

From that image there is no way to tell if the grade is correct.

There are several basement grading "services" that would fall under that category, like SGS!

I tend to agree with you the set gets no respect. That's why I am working on completing mine. It's fun and attainable.

No one that I know of asked you to ... I personally believe it is correct and it's MY coin. I would have put the same grade on it if it was in a 2x2. Question: Do you put coins in 2x2's and put a grade on them????? Are the grades ALWAYS absolutely correct ... or, is it just your opinion???

Are you a basement grader if you put a coin in a 2x2 and call it an XF45 ???????????????

Just thought you might wish to show just how good your grading service is.

When you sell a coin in a 2X2 and you attach a grade to it, it's YOUR opinion. There will be people that will disagree with your grade, and there will be some who will, again, it's your opinion. You study the grades and you put one on there that looks as close as possible as the coin itself. And not all grades are absolutely correct, even with the Top TPG's. I've seen undergraded slabbed coins and I've seen overgraded ones, PCGS and NGC or any other TPG are STILL humans and they CAN make mistakes, just like us. There's no perfect grader out there, everyone can make mistakes.

This is just my two cents, not trying to offend anyone or Jerryb.

The young man makes a good and valid point. I grade a lot of my 2x2's. How dare I........LOL :)

No, you're a basement grader if you place a coin in a slab, and with a grade that is much higher than it actually is.

Agreed - just far fewer mistakes in the top 2. As to Jerryb I would need much better pictures of a variety of coins before I even began to provide an opinion.

Well, I'm not spamming but you can just go to my website and buy one ... that way, if you believe it, you can say cleaned, whizzed, overgraded and/or anything else.

Grading is purely opinions ... we use 4 graders with over 120 years total experience in grading ... and, like the Majors ... we can make mistakes. We try our best but we are not perfect ... just like the others. We sell lots of them and in 5+ years we have not had any returned to us to date. I think that says something in itself.

That is exactly what WE, NGC, PCGS, PCI and any others try our darndest to NOT DO. We TRY our best to be right.

OK, enough. Get back on the original topic or else. I will not allow this to turn into a flame war. You have been warned...all of you.

I think you did just fine on your purchase, don't let my $10 for the whole set fool you, I got that for a surprise deal. The dime itself is worth atleast that much by itself. I'm even considering a slabbed one in a very high grade.

I agree...I think you did just fine. I would love to pick up one of those and when I get around to it, I will probably shoot around the $15 point.

Well thanks for all the input on my original post. Wish I had known about the W dime when I got my 1996 set.
