I went to my first coin show today at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center in the Mission Valley area of San Diego. It was FUN!!! I got to dig through bargain bins that sparked my interest and my daughter had a blast at the youth table. She had more fun with the magnifying glass, though

Here's a summary of what's in the pic: (Left) 5 various foreign coins for a buck. (Top Middle) 1851 large "braided hair" cent for $6. (Bottom Middle) Known to coin collectors as "Junk silver" but worth the most! Walking Liberty Half Dollar, 4 Mercury Dimes and Roosevelt Dime for $28. (Right) 6 U.S. coins for $5 and they include two error pennies and four buffalo nickels. The dollar amounts on the bottom right hand side are what they would go for book value so I got a killer deal! $30.50 value right there.

I apologize for the "Known to coin collectors...." part. I copied the summary from my facebook page! I know you're all familiar with the term.

Nice work on the "junk" silver.

Silver is silver is silver. Unless you hold paper aka "the bag." ;)

I was tempted to buy paper currency just b/c of its artwork....I was very close. But in the longrun, it wouldn't be worth anything and that's half the reason why I was there today.

The people there had an awesome sense of humor, too. I told one of the sellers that I'm new to coin collecting and he said, "We all are!" LOL! I had another seller who saw my 3 year old when I was purchasing the junk silver and he said, "Is this for her?" Which it certainly is.

Nice job on the coins, looks like you had fun! Now your next assignment is to get that 1851 attributed!!! Nice pick up for $6 even with the cleaning.

What does "attributed" mean, in terms of coinage?
