Are uncirculated state quarters worth more in the original bank roll? I have a number of state quarter rolls, but they were removed from the original bank roll and placed into tubes.
$10......That's the smart alec answer. Let's see if someone who really knows happens along. BTW, welcome to the forum.
bank rolled statehood quarters hold virtually no premium, so the short answer to your question is there is almost no difference in value between the bank rolled quarters and the ones in tubes. It is my opinion and also my experience that statehood quarters sell for almost no premium at all regardless. Most can be found at face value even in relatively higher uncirculated grades (certified coins aside). If you are looking to buy them, they can be had for the most part at face. If you're looking to sell the rolls for profit, I would advise that you sell them and invest elsewhere.
The rolls aren't worth more than face. After the SQ program ended, values for rolls really tanked. To give you an idea, 2 years ago, I had 100 mint-wrapped rolls and the best offer I got was $1200. Chris
I remember when there was a decent premium on these rolls. Some of them were going for almost double face value.
From what I have seen on E-Bay the only one's that have any premium over face are original mint rolled SQ.
Bank rolled ones, no, but original mint wrapped rolls have a premium (when they are in the store bought rolls) not federal reserve rolls
Thanks for the replies. The quarters that I have came from my father (120 rolls).I obviously have no background in coins.
Do you know the difference between a mint wrapped (which isn't really wrapped at the mint. An outside concern does the job) and a bank wrapped roll? Allow me to illustrate... Bank wrapped: Mint wrapped:
IMHO the reason that the price tanked was because so many people had the exact same idea. Save a roll of each quarter as they were released and sell the coins either in sets, or in rolls after the program ended for profit. Unfortunately there were hundreds of millions of these ncoins minted and several thousand people who planned to capitalize from the same idea.
Being a dealer I get around 15-20 emails a day from individuals AND Dealers wanting to bail out of State Quarters. I could buy 1000's of rolls a week (from original mint wrapped rolls to bank rolls) ... but, most of the time they would lose money after paying for shipping. We used to sell from our website dozens of rolls a week but right today sales in them is practically '0'. About a month ago I took around 160 +/- rolls to the bank and cashed them in. Tying up to much money and space here and not moving. Some of the rolls had $13-14 Grey Sheet bid but most of them were in the $10.50 or so range. Sad as a year or two ago they were very hot. Same as with FDC's ... dead in the water right now.
I agree with the " NO Premium " answers. My suggestion, just use them and put them into circulation. Make some set collector happy.
If anybody has some , that I need, and I will list, I will pay shipping both ways, and send you silver!
