Ok so I found this 1999 Delaware quarter at work in a bank roll. Because I always check for silver and rare coin the buy them if I find them. Well anyways I came across this delaware that is silver on the edge like a silver quarter. I tested the soun with a regular quarter and silver, it sounded like a regular quarter but again it does not look clad. Please help. It is a 1999 Delaware mint mark is a (p).Thank you.

I have seen many clad coins that do not show copper on the edge and since silver was only used on the S mint proofs I think you have a hidden clad.

Clad coins are sort of like a sandwich with a copper core and two copper-nickel outside layers. Blanks for the coins are punched out of a sheet (much like a cookie cutter cutting out cookies from dough). Sometimes the copper-nickel from one of the outside layers smears over the copper core when the blank is punched out obscuring the copper core.

Your best bet would be to weigh the coin. If it weighs 5.67 grams +/- it is a normal clad quarter. If it weighs 6.25 grams +/- it is 90% silver.
