If you've been collecting coins for at least a year you are probably familiar with the following numismatic organizations:

    1.California State Numismatic Association (CSNA)
    2. American Numismatic Association (ANA)
    4. Numismatics International (NI)
    5. International Bank Note Society (IBNS)
    6. WorldWide Bimetallic Collectors Club (WBCC)
    7. Northern California Numismatic Association (NCNA)
    8. Numismatic Association of Southern California (NASC)
    9. Combined Organizations of Numismatic Error Collectors of America (CONECA)

You may be a member of a local coin club or even a state Numismatic organization, but what do you know about a coin collectors group titled Everycountry?

    From their website:

"The Everycountry group is a very active forum for advanced world coin collectors who collect one coin per country or per coin issuing authority, A to Z. Members discuss and research coins from different countries, especially unusual or hard-to-find locations. Of particular interest are countries such as Germany, Italy, China, India, Switzerland, and Mexico, which have seen countless coin-issuing authorities over the past several centuries. Our 6,000-line checklist, which is continually being refined and expanded, includes emergency coinage, local coinage, siege coins, and rebel issues. Although we have many international members and often trade or sell coins among themselves, the focus of the Everycountry group is not the trading of circulating coins from different countries and the frequent offering of such coins for sale is discouraged. We have a live online chat session each month and meet annually at the Chicago International Coin Fair. New members are always welcome."

Quite an idea, right? Did you already know about the group?

Well, you know me, I'm always pondering about the what ifs of each new numismatic revelation.

What various coin collections or themes could be garnered from this concept?

    OR...

what "collection within a collection" make an Everycountry collection more interesting?

I've been collecting for 39 years and there are three of those groups I am not aware of. (I am a member of the Everycountry group though.)

    Hi Condor101:

Some of the groups are only a small group within a larger group. I'm not a member, but thoight the idea of "one coin from every country" worrth sharing...

I had to read your post a second time Clinker, because when I read it the first time yesterday I didn't fully appreciate what you were saying. There are so many avenues available to us in which we can channel our collecting interests. We of course can collect types of coins or series of currencies, but to collect by year, same denomination, loved ones birthdays, same medal composition, etc. is something I hadn't though about. It really opens up a lot of possibilities. Thanks for the unique perspective. Always enjoy your threads Clinker, they make me think.

I've been collecting OFEC for years. I have a listing of "places" I put together. I include "places" that issued banknotes and stamps too. Stamps are quick and easy to make, just overprint someone else's. This was a tactic used by many revolutionary groups trying to establish credibility. Once stamps are included, the OFEC list becomes monstrous. I've slowly been going through my old stamp collection isolating different "places". Someday soon I hope to get a handle on my number of "places".

I'd love to get a hold of the list of 6000 places included in the list mentioned. Anyone have that one?

Oh yeah, I also collect my birth year (1970). I also keep track of how many "places" I have silver coins from. I somewhat actively look for one coin from each year (I have at least one from every year 1770-2011, with a bunch of dates before 1770 as well, just not all). I've got my collection cataloged in Excel with a LOT of detail. I can sort my collection any which way I'd like very quickly.
