    These coins belong to the government...in other words US! There were sold illegally, the family that owned them knew that they were illegal, and this amounts to no more than the government recovering stolen property. If you don't believe me, read Illegal Tender: Gold, Greed, and the Mystery of the Lost 1933 Double Eagle by David Tripp.

    It spells out the entire history of these 1933 double eagles.
