Today was my second detecting. The first time I got jack. But when I went detecting around my neighborhood, and got 4 pennies, one that has craters; a nickel, a dime, and a earring. I wonder if it has diamonds or not. Then I went to the park and got 6 pennies and a dime. Hope I get good stuff soon.;)

Note to self, try to keep kids away cause they'll touch your detector, get in your space, and try to take what your trying to look for.

PS: I hope this goes in this forum.

You're preaching to the choir about kids harassing you when you detect! Dang crumb snatchers.

Here are my finds from Bahamas:

The 1st are from Nassau, 2nd from Freeport, and 3rd are from Key West. Only got a little time on each, but it was prime beach time so I didn't want to ruin beach time for tourist.

I know what you mean about the kids being a pest.

One time I was detecting a local park and a bunch of them were hanging around bugging me.

I kinda got worried that someone would think it strange that these kids were hanging around me.

So, I told them that they parents wouldn't like them talking to a stranger.

    Guess what they told me....

    Mom sent me over.

    Thanks, mom.

Kids hanging around? Employ that noisy lower end "kid repellent" Or at least get something that sounds like it.

That's one reason I use headphones. If the kids can hear your detector reacting to something they will grab it before you can get it. And they just plain get in the way when my detector is reacting to trash.

Another reason to use headphones is so you can hear those faint signals of something buried several inches deep.

    A note to the OP:

I am heavily considering buying a metal detector. I am from a smallish town in Northern California. My first planned stop is an old, abandoned drive-up movie theatre. Chances are that if someone dropped a coin there from back in the day, it will be silver. Hopefully no one else has my idea! In these parts, at least.
