i have just purchased a decent metal detector, hoping to hit some beaches soon, find some coins any fellow detecorists on here? rich
Yep. I've got a Garrett ACE 250 with a 10 x 14” EXcelerator search coil. Works well. I just gotta get out. I live in Edgerton Kansas so we've got a lot of history spots including the Santa Fe Trail and The battle of BlackJack. A lot of parks here too.
I bought a new model Garrett Ace 350 with the DD Pro-formance search coil for my wife and I a couple months ago. We've found several copper Memorial pennies, nothing major yet, but it sure is fun.
I checked out a yard a while back and found around $10 in modern currency in about an hour. I've also found some wheat pennies. I haven't used the detector much though. I had a generic one once and found a 2 cent piece, a dozen of wheats, a merc, and a 5 cent piece. Duh maybe I should have kept the generic one.
I have a metal detector.... it's nothing special just an older Radio Shack one and I really want to get out and do some exploring with it. There's a local metal detecting club I hope to join when I have a little spare time.
I do some detecting as well. Too hot to do any in the summer, so I'm looking forward to winter to get out again. Guy
Well California weather in the summer is like a Spring/Fall day compared to here in the Houston area!!!!! I would be out all the time if I was there!!!!!! Our mornings/evenings are almost mid 80's. I guess it's all about what you are used too.
Well, it's 7am and it's already 112 outside. Supposed to get over 120 by noon. I live in the Mojave Desert, so it's a bit toasty. Add about 80% humidity to that and you see why outside activities wait till winter around here. Guy
First question is why???? But I understand. Didn't know people in Cali actually lived there ;-))!! I have family in L. A. & SF, so that's the only weather I know about in Cali.
I have a White's DFX. Great machine. I hit my first gold ring of the year on Saturday. A very small Lady's wedding band, 14kt no engraving. Plus about $9 in junk coin. Sunday a gold(?) earing and about another $9 in junk coin.
Nice finds, Frank! I've been scouting a few areas via Google Earth that I want to detect the next few weeks while on vacation in Utah. There's an old townsite I want to check out. Anyone know if there are procedures I should follow before digging up federal lands? It's not a designated historical or natural site and it's on public lands, but I don't know if I still need to do anything else before exploring the site. Guy
Coleguy I was just on vacation in PA. and I saw a lot of those signs that had a picture of a metal detector with a circle with a line thru it. NO RELIC HUNTING. I dont know about private land but heres is a link I found on Treasure hunting laws that was interesting. These two links are good stuff. I have a cheap Bounty Hunter that my wife bought me several years ago, I use it from time to time, my earliest find was in the backyard of our old house - a 1917 Wheat, and several from the 40s and 50s under an elm tree.
