Hi everyone, A budy of mine was cleanning out his grandfather Gun Safe and found a whole lot of coins. So fare i Have counted out 285 in ikes, 500 in halfs, and 350 in susan bs and another 200+ in quarters and dimes. and still counting. It was his casino money.
Theres were a couple of Walking Liberts, V nickles, wheats, some proof sets ect, which i can give him addvice on what to due with but the rest im not sure of,

I pulled all the silver from the halfs which was about 25 dollar face value, and the about the same from the dimes and quarters.I know the ikes bring a little bit over Face value.would it be worth trying to sell the halfs and susan bs and ikes or just keep the ikes and bring the rest to bank and cash them in after checking for errors.

what would u due. im stumped. Thanks Frank

I think it's not worth the bother to try to sell the ikes/susies, I would spend 'em.... after checkin them for varieties.

If the halves are 1970 or before , keep'em. They're silver. Susan B's aren't really collectible unless they're proof or the 1979 wide rim. The ikes can be valuable if they are 40% silver or the 1972 Type 2.

Those are fairly crappy pics, though. Here's one of my type 2 Ikes up close.

Noticeable and identifiable with the naked eye. One of the easiest varieties to cherrypick from circulation or from a dealer.

I sell Ikes for $2 a piece, so they do bring in more than face if you have a venue to sell them.

No reason to rush it IMO.. Start with the Ikes, check varieties, then put in a bucket to cash in. Seems you have already found the silver in the lot. You could always buy a few Danscos and fill those up if your bud would like to keep some of grandpa's coins.. The dupes, well keep 'em or sell 'em.

If the silver is in good condition, I'd recommend keeping them. Would be a shame for them to get melted.

I disagree with everybody saying spend the Ikes. You can sell them on ebay for a premium. I've sold 46 random circulated Ikes for $67+shipping, and a few other smaller lots for a premium. After shipping and fees it isn't much, but its something.

EDIT: And with the halves, you could grab a Dansco Kennedy folder (if you don't have one) and start a Kennedy collection. Just pick out the BU ones (maybe AU, if you'd cool with that) and start trying to fill the holes.

I still think it's not worthwhile to try and sell these...
