ive been buying some stricly as a bullion play and if i bring the topic up on a bullion forum i get slammed. the consensious is that nobody wants them and they will be tough to unload. my only thought is if and when silver hits triple digits they might be appealing to some stackers. ive also read a thread where someone went to his refiner and got the std % of melt with 40% and all. i dont know if i should continue stacking these or whoa the horses, just looking for opinions from a more refined group.
Waste of money... 40% silver, I never get spot. Closest I've done was 91% and that was with like, $200 face.
I agree. If you want a bullion play only I would stick with 90% or pure silver. I would never disagree with you collecting a set or two of your own out of them, and having the bullion a secondary play though.
The cost of the clad Ikes has dropped quite a bit lately, locally a bag of $100 face is selling for $122, and was up as high as $145 several months ago, and the 40% Ikes, not a lot of value to them. Even the local B&M won't touch them.
Explains why I've got tons of ikes stacking up... Now that I don't need the cash, I'm actually considering putting together a bag of $1k in ike dollars.
Ship them to the smelter maybe if a few million of them go away some value might come back to the higher graded ones. My set has been going down in value every since I finished it.
You're gonna have to melt more than a few million to increase the value to anything bordering on substantial in terms of premium over melt.
