what do you guys think about the san francisco silver eagles? worth getting to add to collection or no?
I think they are kind of a novelty but I plan on buying 10 or so just to see what they do in the future. That is, as long as the price isn't through the roof at the start.
If the mint sells uncirculated Eagles this year, will they include a "S" coin to go along with the "W" one? I'd pick one of those up if they do that.
The plan is (to my knowledge), that ASE's will be minted at the SF Mint but will not have an "s" mint mark. NGC has said that they will slab them as "S" minted coins on the holders if they are sent in the original box. I think there will be plenty of people who will want them to complete their set, so I plan on picking up some to take to the shows when I get back.
Ordered mine the other day w/ free shipping @ $56 don't really think I hurt myself! NGC graded 69 FS! I hope it will be a collector in the future... but one never knows! Could all be hype... but worth the gamble I think!!
$16 over spot is a good deal for a bullion coin? You're paying $16 over spot?!?!?!!??? I got some silver to sell!!!
I just don't see the justification for paying that kind of a premium. Now slap a physical "s" mintmark on the coin and I might be a player at a little additional cost.
The coin isn't worth it unless you have a set...and only if you have a NGC set. As far as the mint is concerned, there is absolutely no difference between an ASE minted at West Point or SanFrancisco. NGC has created that difference and now will be included as part of their registry sets just as the 2000 Millenium ASE was. So, if you do not have a NGC set or plan on collecting a NGC, there is really no point on getting one of these. These will not be any rarer than the W slabbed ones and the prices should remain the same. $56 is a bit too high. The average cost for either the West Point or San Fran slabbed ASEs is running about $48-50 on ebay.
I just ordered mine from silver town. I have always had good dealings with them. Right now you can get a PCGS or an NGC MS69 "S" for 49.95 and 2.10 shipping. I didn't even know pcgs was putting it on the label until I saw theirs.
Ya know? I put the "Eagles" in an Dansco album. Ain't no one that's going to be able to tell the difference between a San Fran or a West Point. Without the mint mark there just ain't no legitamacy. ******* (he never says that) coin.........
