Hi Folks, I was wondering if some of you could help me determine the grade of the following 1802 Bust Dollar. My personal opinion is in the VG/F range, but please don't let this effect your's. Thank you for your opinions.:smile

The coin has been damaged, I can't make it out for sure but it might even be a chopmark. Forgetting the damage, and if it's genuine, that I'd say it has VG8 details.

    S13ACoin,

I hope for you that I am wrong but I believe that the coin is a counterfeit! Note the uneveness (different sizes) of the ticking along the edge of the Obverse. Also note the lack of any ticking or even evidence of ticking on the Reverse despite that the wear on the Reverse is about even with the wear on the Obverse. The "1" and "8" in the Date do not look right in that they are not tilted CW far enough as in a normal 1802 Bust Dollar. Also, the entire Date is too far to the West since on a normal 1802, the "1" should line up about even with the right edge of the lower curl in Miss Liberty's hair.

If I am wrong, then I agree with GDJMSP that it is a VG-8!

Huntsman, thank for you opinion. I do however think that it is real and that the lack of ticking is due to wear. There are also 3 major 1802 varieties, 1802/1 and a Narrow and Wide date. This appears to be a narrow date according others that I have compared it to.

I agree with GD on this one. VG8. (providing of course its real) Is that corrosion on the star in front of the nose?
