Saw this auction end tonight and didnt have time to warn the seller or post here for feedback. Is this a counterfiet coin? I saw this has a bold "N" on the reverse and my understanding is all 1869's had a shallow N. Anyone know for sure? The poor winner (if a fake coin) probably has no clue.
You could call the seller and alert them. I don't think that Great Southern is known for selling fakes. Maybe they'd want to know.
That coin doesn't look fake to me, however, it looks too good. I hope it isn't fake, if it is, the counterfeiters are on top of their game. The sharpness and details almost look like a proof. That's what I mean by 'too good'... It's scary good.
I agree with you ratio. The coin just looks too good. This would fool 90% or more of the people out there. watch out for the fakes!!
Great Southern Coins has coins that may or may not have been cleaned. Also, their pics appear to be juiced somewhat. But, having said that they have an excellent return policy.
Not only is the N bold but everything about that coin is way too bold. Something's not right. It's certainly not like any I've seen.
Ive bought a few coins fom them and had a GREAT experience and they are known for selling legit, high quality coins. I dont think its a fake but if it is they can easily get a return becuase that their policy "No questions asked"
Great Souther Coins is someone I have done business with in the past, and my experience with them has been stellar. Had to return something and it was no questions asked. I do agree with their pictures looking better than coin in hand in some cases, but for the most part they are pretty accurate. I was surprised when I saw this up there last night. Read more here: http://www.fly-inclub.org/shallow N.htm There is a good explanation here, and according to Rick Snow, there are zero "Bold N" 1869 indian heads. This coin is a counterfeit for sure, and a very good one.
I would alert great souther coin to the problem. I have seen sellers post the wrong reverse for an obverse. Let me tell you I was excited since it would have been a new variety - it was still a nice coin. The two reverse matched really close.
