I don't know where to get good deals on coins (if that even exists) This all started out with a guy on CraigsList selling his grand mothers collection. I paid a little under what he would have gotten from a dealer which I thought was a good price! Ever since then that's about it. I picked up a few Morgan Dollars at a Jeweler all for $35 a piece it's in a plastic tub with many other Morgans and Peace Dollars... I drove around today found a few small tag and estate sales, all with no coins. I don't have Money to pay full price, and I'm just clueless. Craigslist is flooded with people buying gold and silver, but rarely anyone selling. Am I the only one that feels this way?
What I have had some "minor" lick with is at the local jewelry store, I have made, over time a somewhat of a friendship with the owner, he will from time to time call me and let me know he has jut gotten some coins in (all types, but mainly silver), he thens sells them to me for 10% above what he paid for them, and it has never been at or above spot, just a suggestion.... best regards
That would only be true to me if I didn't work in my restaurant 6 days a week, doing 14 hour work days. I have one day to hunt and I don't know where to begin.
It's hard to say what is a good deal because I don't know what it is your collecting and what it is you want to pay and would consider a deal. Because of the convenience and the possibilty of getting a really good deal, I use ebay. Make sure you read any auction you bid on very carefully. Other than that there are other online vendors who have fair prices IMO. It's not common or easy to get things at prices less then a dealer would pay, that's why the are dealers.
Try flea markets, the change you get at work, and family and friends change jars. I've had some good luck with all of those. You can get some good deals on ebay, but again, you really have to watch, read, and look carefully. What are you looking for or interested in collecting?
Stay away from large silver coins right now and you'll still be able to find good deals. So many people are caught up in the bullion craze that you won't find any reasonable prices for many silver or gold coins for a while.
That sounds about right. But I like large coins. More to look at. What would you reccomend? I like pennys that have nice color to them. Quarter Nickels and Dimes dont interest me much. Gold coins are way too expensive for me.
I agree. Ever since the silver run up this year, I haven't bought much silver coinage, but have ventured to other coins in which the metal value has no play. I've bought 2 and 3 cent coins dirt cheap, found some early IHC really cheap, etc... I figure silver will go down later on in life, and when they do, I'll start back up, but in the meantime....
