CAC on AG3 coins

I'm looking for an UNC 1917 type 1 standing liberty quarter and while going through some PCGS slabbed coins on E-Bay I can't help but get a little tickled when I see a CAC sticker on a coin graded AG3. Now I know they were key dates but AG3? They say that they only sticker coins that are at the top of their grade. My question is this has anyone ever sent a coin to CAC and they NOT sticker it? I am just curious.

heehee wow..just highlights how much of a joke CAC is///yes they are ok but if you ask me the sticker should be reserved for MS grades

IMHO, a 'CAC' sticker on a coin is just another clever scheme for dealers to add a premium to the original price of a coin. I was looking at a 1921 Peace MS63PCGS w/ CAC, a beautiful, white example I may add, but the dealer was asking far over what the coin was realisticly selling for in todays market. Although, the coin did look like a 64, and may have gotten a '+' (Which I also find the '+' to be a hoax as well, but I won't get into that) easily if resubitted. Now, you may say puting a 'CAC' sticker on low grade, key date examples is bad... I say putting them on ANY slab is bad. Now, this is all subjective I suppose. So those of you who enjoy 'CAC', I apologize.

Let's start a service here on Coin Talk where we can charge people $30 for a CTC sticker. It could be Coin Talk Certified! We could help support Coin Talk!

All we'd need is some stickers and we're in business. I think CAC outsources their stickers from China where the production costs are lower so we might look into that so as to make our service more affordable and hence be more competitive.

I don't think I need a "green bean" sticker to assure me that something is ag-3......

Was it a 1916? Because I recall seeing 1916's in AG-3 with CAC stickers on their slabs. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think CAC is just to verify that the TPG got the grade right, or has the most accurate grade based upon the overall eye appeal. It's sort of like a second TPG if you ask me.

To me it would be different if this key date was a true AG-3 in the series. Of course not having seen this coin I can't answer it. You typically see so many key dates overgraded. I have seen some key dates graded AG-3 that were po-1 or fa-2 in my book. And believe it or not, some people need that assist from cac. As it is I like most, not all, cac coins - just like tpgs I think some are correct and some aren't. Other than that I have no problem with CAC.

Dumb question, but are you sure it was a real CAC sticker? Some sellers put imitation ones on to try to fool people.

It is amazing where the hobby has gone. Maybe it should have gone g4?
Scary though Vess, first we get fake slabs now the door is open for fake beans on fake slabs that contain fake coins!! I wonder why most of my coins are raw?

All CAC does is verify that the grading company has graded the coin accurately, so I guess an AG-3 coin can be stickered.

MOST OF MY COLLECTION IS RAW. IF I SUBMITT MY COINS FOR SLAB I ALSO SUBMITT MYSELF. MEANS THEY WILL CERTIFIED MY COINS THAT MY EYES LOOKING ON THEM HOW THEY DO IT. WHY? I AM VERY SCARED OF SWITCHING OF MY COINS. I DO NOT WANT MY 1893 S COME BACK AU-58 IF MY OWN OPINION MY COINS GRADE is MS65.

I definitely wish I'd had my shade 3 Redwin goggles on.

You really don't need to use giant fonts and colors. We promise we'll read your posts even if they're in normal text. :)

The CAC sticker has done some good to the hobby as the TPG have tightened their grade up some. To answer one of your questions is yes I know of a dealer that frequents hear that has sent coins in that have come back with no bean.

At first my thoughts were with the majority hear, lol ya right but as I tend to look for the pieces I like, I tend to look at the CAC's first and then the others. I will not pay for the bean but will pay more quality coin.

I don't need a slab to assure me what the grade of my coin is either.
