Different looking toning

    My son came home with this 1966 Kennedy half yesterday. But the toning doesn't look like something I have seen before. Can someone help with these photos. Thanks

    Looks like it was left in a puddle of motor oil.

    I can only see the small images. I could comment on the toning if I could see a larger image. Plus, did you scan that image? Is it pretty dark in hand? A picture would be much better! :)

    It's probably spent some time in dirt, maybe stuck to another coin? I degunk the coins my folks find metal detecting and it looks like when two coins get stuck together and dirt only sits on certain parts of one side.
