Current Stongest US Type Gold Buyers

Spectrum, Heritage and Rarcoa have for a while been the strongest buyers in US type gold. For a while two of the three were either quite selective or not buying the type material as they have an overabundance.

I think i might need more coffee ... but what do these statistics imply?

 

Quite an increase, even from this week's Coin Dealer Newsletter.

There is no telling how long the bull run will continue.

Spectrum and Rarcoa are also buying around these levels.

 

Is there a similar list for modern commemorative gold? I'm thinking to sell some to dealers at this weekend's show, and I'd like to have an idea what's reasonable -- or do they simply trade at spot? What about modern Eagles?

 

I would check out greysheet on that.

I just sold some of the three piece sets to MCM for around spot. Good luck getting much more than that.

 

With moderns, it seems to be tied more closely to spot, unless it's an '08 fractional Buff. Though, the higher gold goes (and it's going), the less of a spread.....if it keeps going up, any graded, non MS Indian/Coronet $2.50 and $5 will be spot.

 

It helps to keep in mind that if you have cleaned or impaired coins, even type US gold, you will likely get a little over spot--3% over is the current level both with Heritage and Rarcoa--same as "jewelry".

 

Apmex may pay more--heck, some of the major companies have been shipping their eagles and maple leafs to them to get $30 over spot, when they are paying just spot. Problem is waiting for a check. I have seen shops say spot is X when spot is actually X + $5. Presumably Kitco is the standard for spot price.

 

I doubt if I'd ever have enough volume to make it worthwhile to ship to Apmex, but I'll certainly keep that in mind. Thanks!
