i found these in an antique store this afternoon. i need some help attributing them. thanks in advance. first coin: (with what i think the attribution is) constantius ii, ae, 18mm obv: diademed, draped, and curiassed bust facing right. DN CONSTAN-TIVS PF AVG rev: soldier spearing fallen horseman, horseman with raised left arm. FEL TEMP REPARTIO. ASIS in exergue. (ric viii 350) second coin: constantius ii, ae, 14mm obv: diademed, draped, and curiassed bust facing right. FL IVL CONSTANTIVS NOB C rev: two soldiers, one standard, "o" in standard. GLORIA EXERCITVS. TRΓ in exergue.
I suspect the second is mintmark TRP rather than gamma. Trier used ordinal abbreviations P=Primus, S=Secundus T=Tertius rather than Greek numerals.
someone correct me if i am wrong with this, but i believe the 1st coin was struck between 337 and 361, while constantius was augustus. the 2nd coin was struck between 324 and 337, while constantius was caesar. am i correct?
Yes, Constantine I never shared the title Augustus with his children but the three boys assumed it immediately on dad's death in 337.
