Below is a scanned image of a dollar bill in the collection willed to me. I've never seen one like this. Is it valuable beyond its novelty or the odds of it surviving to go into circulation? ^^

    What do you think?

WOW, not TOO normal I have to say. It's like the background, and the check digit 6 is terribly messed up! Nice one there.

The third printing of this bill was messed up. No price from me though.

I think the error is called an Offset Printing error! I would suggest looking at completed eBay Auctions for a possible value of the note. The bill appears to be VF to EF in condition and I would guess that it would fetch at least 20x times face value and possibly more.

    Good luck...Frank

Based on 2005 Redbook of US paper currency: Shifts or misaligned overprints
While minor shifts are easily found in circulation, major displacements are more rare and thus more valuable to collectors.

A shifted overprint will fetch $50 - $100 over face value, depending on the grade (VF or Unc). A shifted overprint appearing on a star note is more valuable.

Personal opinion... yours does not appear to be of the major catagory... maybe $10.

Anything is possible on ebay, they sell a piece of toast with a jelly stain of Elvis for $5000.

    Nice error note though. :thumb:
