How do people sell Proof coins individually, or in rolls, if they are not offered by the mint that way? Thanks
...and some years seem underpriced. I have bought from L&C coins and was happy with the quality and service, Ebay can be good also but read feedback.
Simple. A proof goblin makes them in his laboratory. :goofer: Actually as already stated people break them out of the slab from the Mint. I do this all the time myself in order to fill slots in albums. Dealers do this to make more money. Each coin individually will bring much more than the whole. Similar to a junk yard for cars. They buy a junk car for about $30 or so and sell each part for a total of thousands of dollars. Check out any listing of coin prices for individual Proofs, add up the ones for one date and then check out the prices of a complete set.
While I agree that it seems like people break apart proofs to get single proof coins, I myself, could not bring myself to crack one open... I am trying to get one of every year proof set, well ever year that goes for under a certian amount... I prefer Silver Proofs too...
What I can't figure out is why some Mint (unc) sets a worth more than a proof set of the same year...
Yea, I think its usally, Like Limit 100 perperson but I think Limit# x cost each is usally higher than most casual collecters can afford... (on something from 30-50.00), I'm happy if I can buy one or two, I'd be exstatic if I could get 4, but hundred!!! I'd have take out a 2nd Morgage.. I think they should limit to like 10 or something, give everyone a chance... Typically, what I think happends is dealers folks with deep pockets come in and buy'em up for 30 ea, sit on them for 3-6 months (sometimes longer) then start selling them at 3+ times the cost they bought them for...
I don't think there is a limit unless its on Comm's and things like that....my dealer always gets over a hundred I think and I know some dealers get way more than only 1 hundred. Speedy
.....And in addition to mintages there is the distribution of the things. If a bunch of closed hand collectors (like us) gets them they will be worth more than if dealers flood the market with them.
