I emailed the seller yesterday telling them it's a fake, and have had no response. Oh...but it's "third party graded".... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290584956044
Looks like DCC. I think they are just down the street from BillyBob's Grading Service. It is missing all of the diagnostics present on the genuine one.
Definitely looks like a cast. The D mint mark and the leg of the F in Five are actually over the rim. The whole coin looks a bit off.
Use this link for reporting, it is much faster and less cluttered for an eBay rep to see: http://contact.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ContactUs&userid=&pass=&wftype=2022&rcode=BN%25P10072&subject=Selling+Coins&bcrumb=Topics+%3E+eBay+Policies+%3E+Rules+for+Sellers+%3E+Listing+Policies+for+Sellers+%3E+Selling+Coins+&clk_rvr_id=246669904464
"DCC" is the seller themselves. "Denver Certified Coins" Either they don't know what they are doing, or they are specifically using a front to sell bogus coins.
I am no Buffalo expert, but I am looking at their other auctions, and the coins don't look right there either. Maybe some of you with better Buffalo and classic sense should have a look. There are some high end coins being auctioned by this seller. For example, this is a 13s Buff with the same odd characteristics... http://cgi.ebay.com/Super-High-Grad...39?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item43a8368c87
I notice there ad says you can be confident that the coins are "third party graded", however how is there a 3rd party if the seller is the grader? Check out the 16-D Merc!
I have seen numerous real 3 leggers in my 50+ years of coin collecting, before pics on the internet. You just know the look of the real ones!
The key Merc and the 1885 V-Nic both look 'cast' as well. The Merc looks very sloppy, and the V has a 'soft' liquid look, as though poured. I notice his "TPG" listings all say "NO RETURNS ON THIS AUCTION" at the bottom.
Yep, very interesting. They have a PCGS cent on auction and just call it "certified", not "third party graded" like all their other ads. Also, the bottom of each ad says no returns, but up top it says 7-day return.
It's always 'funny' when a seller has a truckload of key dates without some 'middle of the road' coins as well. This seller has bank roll current cents, "unsearched" wheats (big scam), and a stack of slabs that are all key dates.
This one looks very much like my 3 legger http://cgi.ebay.com/1937-D-3-Legged...88?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item51993a2630
