Roll-searching today and found this 1984 Lincoln cent. Is this PMD or a misplaced MM? If misplaced MM, any value? Thanks, TC
It has the appearance of a "dropped letter" maybe from the "of" on a reverse. explained here http://coinauctionshelp.com/droppedletters.html Jim
That might just be what it is. Thanks for the link. It looks like either a D or an O. It is definitely NOT zinc rot. TC
I'm not trying to rain on your parade TC but the area in question looked raised to me. A dropped letter will be incuse. As far as it beng a mint mark , I just thought it highly unlikely that a mint mark being punched that far off location wouldn't have been caught and the die rejected before it ever went into use. I've seen a lot of zincolns that have those doughnut shaped raised areas where you can see the zinc in the middle of them. That's why I thought it was rot.
I appreciate your opinion. I looked online for pics of zinc rot and it did not seem to look like what I found. Do you have a pic of zinc rot that resembles it that you can post or perhaps a link. Thanks, TC
Zinc rot is nasty! I guess it could be that, although it seems odd that it is shaped like a D (or maybe an O) and located very close to where a MM should be on the coin. Thanks for posting. TC
