I saw a 1871 shallow "N" indian head cent in a coin shop today. It was labeled "Bold N", but I could clearly tell it was shallow. It was probably in G4 condition and had a labeled price of $70.

does anyone know just how rare this coin is? I looked at all of the 1871s on ebay tonight just to see if I could find one. I did not see a single one.

I want to go back and take another look (and possibly buy), but I don't want to pay too much for it. Any idea on what these may be worth? It was a problem free coin, just worn down.

i've seen the estimated retail at $250 in g4, and it is listed as "very scarce."

I think I am going to get it tomorrow. Its the only one I have ever seen in in person and its mislabeled. Hopefully the dealer wont realize his error between now and tomorrow.

Here are some pics of the coin. Just picked it up for $45. its definitely worn down a bit, but it is clearly a shallow N. The serifs in the "E's" are correct.
