I recently acquired two Morgan dollars and had a few concerns before submitting them to NGC. I would like to know your thoughts on the 1878 7TF, would it grade considering the radial rubbing from 6 o’clock to 11 o’clock on the obverse. I was thinking that it would not be enough to bag the coin but would take it down a grade. I believe NGC would grade this coin MS62 maybe MS63, hoping you guys can help me out. As for the 1879-O, it looks great, I was thinking and hoping for MS63 on this one. Would you guys agree with my grade of this example? Thanks for your replies !
I dunno about the '78 - maybe somebody tried an eraser or something on it, but it doesn't really look like eraser marks. But it does look like they did something. I'd go with 63 on both if the '78 does grade.
The photo doesn't show it well, but It kinda looks like it may have been in a tube at some point, It's quite faint but none the less, present. The photo of the dollar may look like the coin has some eraser marks but in hand you would see that the piece is absent of such markings. Thanks for your input Doug , I'll try posting a photo of the 1878 obverse field so you can get a better idea of what I'm talking about.
