When the SHTF, this coin will be worth 12.5 current USD. That's a bit of a doomsday scenario, I guess, but still. The dude probably has a lot of other amazing coins. If you're converting this half to bullion, at this point in time, that means you probably have a ton of other coins that you wouldn't touch today.
This coin is dripping with luster in the protected areas and all around the rim... Obverse slightly more then reverse. I think my photography and lighting shows EVERYTHING on the surfaces as far as little marks and hits go... some of these you have to struggle to find in hand. I assure you there is nothing funky going on with this coin. This is what they are supposed to look like.
1000% agree. If something is wrong with this coin, then I have 50 "problem" coins just like it, (100 if you count my bust halves). Toning is natural, protected areas show luster like they should, toning breaks in natural defined points of the field, etc etc. If the coin looks in hand like the photo, its a poster child for how a well cared for 150 year old coin should appear. IMHO, the coin may have been dipped once long ago, no way to know really. That goes for all coins of this era though, and this coin is about as nice as you can find in the market, and is highly desired by collectors of those series. If someone wanted a more "natural" coin, the only suggestion from me would be one of the darkly toned coins that appear sometimes, but those don't appeal to most people. Chris
That coin is beautiful! I don't see anythign wrong with the looks or toning. Althugh I am partial to toning.
Well, when I said I agreed, I meant that if I had the money and I had been saving just for that one coin, then I would want to buy it in person, just in case! :smile I would trust Lost though!
I like the coin. That said, it does not appear to be what I would call natural surfaces. It looks to me to be dipped at one time and then retoned -- something I would call "secondary toning" rather than "original". IMO, of course, and admittedly I may be splitting hairs here, and this coin is better than 95% of the examples of the type as it is -- very attractive. Respectfully...Mike
Looks nicer than my XF40 would be very interested if I could see it in hand looks nice from the images.
