A dealer as in only one? I have several I believe I can trust. Then again, what do you mean by trust? Do I think they offer fair prices - yep. Do I think they sell at fair prices for the coin - yep. It seems their are some people who like to blame dealers for everything, down to and including their own mistakes.
I'm fortunate enough to have a great local dealer. Took me a while to figure him out, he's one of those who will give you a fair price, but he hates it when you try to haggle with him. If you just go in and select the coins you want, and ask what he'll take for them, he always treats you right. He's a gruff old guy, but once he knows you as a regular, he's friendly enough. I suspect he's also just a little frustrated with John Q Public coming into the shop trying to sell him stuff, expecting to get way more than their coins are worth.
Some dealers I can trust to be fair on their prices, some I can trust to try to wring the last red cent out of any deal. Like RWR famously said, trust but verify.
I have several. Not every dealer is for every collector. You just have to keep looking till you find the ones that work best for you. Guy
i trust 900fine (ricky) the most but me and him are quite aways apart. i know alot of local dealers but i think trust all depends on the person. i know one guy who i could say i trust and runs his own outfit. theres another dealer i trust be hes part of an outfit so its not often i get to see him.
I've been going to a local dealer for nearly 20 years now Rope, and yes I do trust him. I've also found some very good ones on the internet and at coin shows I attend. It takes time to find dealers you're comfortable with, but once you've established a good relationship with them it makes our great hobby that much better. Bruce
I have a guy that is fairly close and have bought a lot of coins from, but he is not the friendliest in the world. He gives me a discount when I push, but he is not much of a talker. I feel sometimes he gets offended when I ask a question. In the beginning when I got back in to coins my questions were very basic, but after time and learning, including this forum, my questions are not so basic, but I still get the feeling he would rather be doing something else. His selection is good which is important to me, and he does command somewhat of a premium in my opinion. One of his helpers is much more friendly, but I never know who I will get when I walk in the front door. There is another one in the area I am going to try. I also have a goto on line dealer I have been using. I like that combination. That an coin shows of course.
Since no one is perfect and everyone can make a mistake, I have one dealer that gets most of my business but always with a watchful eye. Sometimes his selection becomes stale or I disagree with a raw coins grade, but he is my best source. I have a second dealer who gets all my bullion business.
Locally? None at all! There are a number of dealers/eBay sellers whom I trust and respect.......Shane Canup (FL), Mark Feld (CA), James Garcia (MO), Fouad Benkirane (France), Fabrice Volckaert (France) just to name a few. Chris
I have a great dealer that just opened an online retail store called goldmart. I have been working with him for the last 3 years now and have always had a great experience. Do many dealers have ebay stores??
I have a couple great dealers who know exactly what I want and am looking for. A couple of my friends are dealers and I don't buy squat from them. They're the kind of people who would sell their children just to make a buck. There's a dealer for everyone, but it may take time to find him/her...
I've never been to a local dealer either. I've bought most of my coins from dealers online or mint websites. I'll like to check out a local dealer but just don't know of any that are in my area. I'll have to do more research to find some
I trust all dealers to be on the look out to make their selves money. It might be some of mine if they are not too greedy. Had a dealer ask me yesterday for my best price on a group of coins I have for sale. Made him a quote he countered back with 10% less. Trust this feller about as much as a pet snake.
