I was wondering if anyone would know the value of 2-BU rolls of 1959-D pennies. I know on certain auction sites PCGS graded ms67's are going from $489.00-$698.00 each. I don't have the knowhow to get the coin graded at PCGS nor do I have the money to do so. Any Ideas? Is it best to sell individual pennies or by the roll? Or should I just go through the effort of getting them graded?
Welcome to the forum! The problem is that the price range for PCGS MS-67 coins reflect their rarity in the market. Most original bank rolls of these may have a MS-65 or so, but I have opened some and not had such a coin, with most being in the 63-64 range. Notice that the PCGS price for a MS-65 is about $1, and that includes the fee someone paid for grading. It was a first year coin and many people saved rolls of them, so many of the lower grades are available. There have only been 36 coins that PCGS has graded that grade. It is possible that there may be hidden gems in the rolls, but most likely not. I would put them safely aside and wait for more experience in grading them yourself so you could pick out the very best one to send in. Best of luck. Jim
Thanks for the advice. I didn't realize that new coins can grade so low. I'll probably take your advice and pick out 1 or 2 of the best and get them graded.
