I really like that Icelandic millennium coin. In my own collection, I have many favorites. This is one-- 1902 matte proof sovereign:
Whoah.. that is an expensive coin.. but more importantly it is BEAUTIFUL the hair detail is superb and the reverse is very nice.
I have never been able to decide on my favourite but it's one of these three : Just indecisive, I guess. All three are reputedly finest known - but with nobody grading these there are no formal records to be sure. - the first is ex Lockett - he had 9 of them of which this the nicest despite the edge chip and scratches (I have only 3). - the second has no provenance - and is much more common - but it's really hard to get anything from this period as nice as this - and probably has the best claim to being undisputedly finest known despite being more common. - the third is ex Millennial - ought to have a longer provenance but I haven't traced it - the lack of images in early cataglogues makes it hard to track these - and despite the scarcity there are others which vie with it, a couple have better legends but not as good surfaces. John. P.S. This is my 'hello' post.
Wow i am very impressed with these picks.. shows that you are very "seasoned" but anyways thanks for post

Thanks Rope, I've been collecting for a long time - started in 1966 as a schoolboy with Irish halfpennies. And yes I do have a lot of nice stuff - and I like almost all of it (it's an open secret that I'm not very fond of Irish Gunmoney) - but favourites are special - either looked for a long time for them or just can't help taking them out to look at them - I can't open my Irish Edward I box without taking a peek at the penny - I've had it since 1988 and still can't believe the condition - and the more I see the more this one just stands out as head and shoulders above the other nice ones around. John
Hard to choose a favorite but I'll go with this 1910 Bern (Switzerland) shooting medal. Quite a few were struck in silver, but only 400 were struck in gold.
