1997 penny error, what happened?!

The obverse has sustained some type of error that I can't quite figure out so does anyone have any input? You can see on the reverse where I have drawn arrows that the rim is almost non-existent on the left and extremely wide on the right from an off-center strike.

Stuck through a piece of debris is my first guess.

 

It would have to be a strike thoruogh or pmd because I don't see any die cap evidence here.

 

The front is from some one burning it with a torch or lighter.
