Sorry this isn't coin related, but I really don't know who to ask about this. It is an original campaign piece from 1880. It is 2 3/8” X 4” and in decent condition. Garfield was elected president but shot July 2, 1881 and died September 19. Thats all I know. This was in with a bunch of stuff from my dad.

I thought maybe someone on here would have some insight. I don't feel like signing up on some other website and all that. Any info would be great.

I did check ebay, but couldn't find anything.

Just wanted to add, I check Heritage auctions and couldn;t find any examples. I also check google to no avail. :(

When I was at the Whitman show in Baltimore recently, I noticed a dealer who specialized in political memorabilia Greg. For the life of me though, I can't recall the dealer's name. I'm going to see if I can find my list of dealers who attended the show and see if I can pick them out. If they have a website, you might be able to contact them to see if they can help you. Maybe search "political memorabilia" or some such phrase and see if you come up with anyone who deals in this material. Good luck.

Thanks Bruce. I did submit it for evaluation at Heritage. Hopefully they can give me some info.

It looks like dcure came up with a near match Greg. That auction closes on July 15th, so you can check back later and see what it sold for. Be sure to let us know what you find out. A lot of history behind your piece, I like it very much.

I found a similar one that sold for $500. So after doing some more research, I beleive the value is between $300-$600. All depoends who wants it that day, ya know.

Well, value is good to know, but this will be going back in the little plastic case and back in a box. Unless of course it would pay for the kids college education. I just can't get myself to sell anything that has been in my family for so long. I have boxes of old stuff like this, Golden age comics, boxes of toys, guns, sports memorabilia...etc. Just don't tell my wife it's worth anything! :)

I understand how not telling your wife the value "thingy" works Greg. I've been married for 32 years...Oh, do I ever know! "It's just junk honey, just worthless junk..worth a few bucks maybe." :D

Hey that sounds like my wife...."You paid $200 for a nickel? Are you serious?" Gotta love it.
