Not unless they're really dramatic. I keep most of the ones I find because I find them interesting. If you find a "shattered die" example, those are really cool!

Yes, die breaks will usually command a premium. Die cracks on the other hand usually will not.

Sorry, misread you question. Conder is correct.

Hi, ikandiggit... How would you rate my 8 real with cracks @ 10-o'clock & 1-0'clock and also nice splash of color?
    Thanks, Les. GOIM0039.JPG

I too love die breaks, as well as shattered dies, retained and unretained cuds. Here are a few of mine....

    Retained cud

Die break on the reverse and also cracked planchet along rim from 6:00 to 11:00

This one has shattered dies, very close to terminal die state

Charmy, I saw your Conder Token with the obverse shattered die. The die break runs from 12:00 to 6:00 and is VERY impressive. (I think it was the Conder with a guillotine on the reverse.) You should post a photo of that one when you get a chance.

Hobo, I think you mean the one that is waiting for me at the ANA vault. It is an amazing piece. That one is a terminal die state and I bought it because of how dramatic all the die cracks, etc. are on that particular Conder. I don't have photos of that one yet but will get Todd to photograph asap.

Not all die breaks/cracks add a premium to a coin's value but I like them because they provide a unique chacteristic that allows you to attribute the coin to the specific working die that struck it. So basically a coin with a die break/crack is about the same as a variety except for the premium value of course.

This one of mine has a rather unique break. Full cud, extremely heavy crack, major die flaking, and retained cud all on the same area of the same coin.

Penny Lady, is there anything you don't collect? Really, I'm humbled. Those are fantastic! :thumb:
