Not unless they're really dramatic. I keep most of the ones I find because I find them interesting. If you find a "shattered die" example, those are really cool!
Hi, ikandiggit... How would you rate my 8 real with cracks @ 10-o'clock & 1-0'clock and also nice splash of color? Thanks, Les.
I too love die breaks, as well as shattered dies, retained and unretained cuds. Here are a few of mine.... Retained cud Retained cud Die breaks and unretained cud Die break on the reverse and also cracked planchet along rim from 6:00 to 11:00 This one has shattered dies, very close to terminal die state Unretained cud
Charmy, I saw your Conder Token with the obverse shattered die. The die break runs from 12:00 to 6:00 and is VERY impressive. (I think it was the Conder with a guillotine on the reverse.) You should post a photo of that one when you get a chance.
Hobo, I think you mean the one that is waiting for me at the ANA vault. It is an amazing piece. That one is a terminal die state and I bought it because of how dramatic all the die cracks, etc. are on that particular Conder. I don't have photos of that one yet but will get Todd to photograph asap.
Not all die breaks/cracks add a premium to a coin's value but I like them because they provide a unique chacteristic that allows you to attribute the coin to the specific working die that struck it. So basically a coin with a die break/crack is about the same as a variety except for the premium value of course.
This one of mine has a rather unique break. Full cud, extremely heavy crack, major die flaking, and retained cud all on the same area of the same coin.
