Well, like many collectors, I have avoided bothering with the limited number of coins involved in the Eisenhower set. Well no more. The dog days of summer are upon us and I recently happened upon a garage sale in my neighborhood. The guy had a bunch of sets of statehood quarters for sale so I asked if they had any other coins. He said that he had about 250 Eisenhower dollars that I could pick though. I ended up putting together almost 3 sets complete at $1.25 a coin. All coins in uncirculated condition. Anyone else take the time to put this set together?
Not everything. I still have to fill in a couple of holes in each set. He had both type I and type II varieties of the bicentennials though. I figured this was a good launching pad for the three sets I needed. All the "keys" would have been nice but this guy knew what he was doing. I did sparked a lot of interest with other customers once I was done picking through the piles. I think this guy did OK after I left.

Thank you for the resource information. These are kind of fun coins both because they are so large and the set is such a short run. I've found that short of coin stores, they are hard to get a hold of. Banks don't have them, retailers don't have them, and not many people collect them. Thanks again Brian!
The Ike Group is composed of (6) Ike enthusiasts form all over the country. We seemed to find more questions than answers while collecting Ikes. So, we dove into research for 6 years and came out with an outstanding, informational Ike book. Don't let this "short" series fool you....it has a multitude of varieties and challenges. ' I've heard the IkeGroup mentioned before, bookmarked them and will spend some more time there. I hurried up and finished the circulated series back when the SBA's came out. I've been working on the uncs and proofs recently. Last one I got was the 1971-S. My misc dollar album has room for all the varieties so eventually I'll try to get them all as I run across them. As most of us know, there were no 1975-dated Ikes minted, as both the 1975 and 1976 issues were dated "1776-1976" to commemorate the bicentennial. Daniel Carr overstruck some of the 40% silver Ikes with the 1975 date, and with a satin finish. I purchased one recently and it looks great. Did anyone else buy one of these, or other of Carr's mintages? I know some collectors don't buy such "fantasy" strikes, but I think all of Carr's work has been exceptional, and I have purchased others, including the 2009 Silver Proof ASE.
I have run across these sets for a good price and purchased them. However have never gone out and put a set together
Love my Eisenhowers, some people are going to hate this post but I bought the eisenhower collection on coin vault when it was 299.00 now it goes for 379.00, i may of payed a little to much but oh well I got em now.
