I just recently made contact with a family member that I haven't seen in quite a while. We started talking on Face Book and thru our conversation I found out her 10 year old son likes coins. I haven't met him yet but,I told her I would like to mail him some coins to help with his collecting and she agreed that would be nice. Well, I talked to him tonight and he was one happy kid. I explained to him how important it was to make sure he took good care of the box and all papers the coin came with, and never touch the coin without gloves to protect the coin. His mother told me he has already went on line to research them. lol Things I mailed him were: 1928 SLQ,1958 Franklin half,2009 OBW Roll of Log cabin pennies and a 2008-S Bald Eagle Commemorative coin with box and COA. It made my day to know how happy this kid was.
It's great to hear what you've done Luke. It's so important to get young people involved in the hobby so they can carry on after the older generation passes on. Like KoinJester says, maybe you can get him interested in joining CT. It's a perfect way for him to learn. Bruce
Awesome! Too many of us forget how important it is for us to encourage the next generation of collectors.
Thats great what you did! I've given coins to interested kids several times and the excitement it gave them made for a great experience. Some of my most treasured coins aren't those worth the most, but the ones given to me by others. It's nice to be able to pass that feeling along.
I think I have a new friend for life,he was so excited. My favorite time to give coins away is at Halloween. Every year I make up three special bags to give away. I put a few Wheats and a silver dime in these bags and slip it in with the candy. I wish I could be there when the coins are found.
