Hey guys. Recently i decided to start a franklin half set and got a huge start at the whitman show. I bought a dansco and three choice bu franklins. Now that the show is over i dont know how to continue my collection. The only coin shop i have is half an hour a way and the people in their are nasty and never have any coins in the store. Every time i go in the coins i see either arent for sale or are wayyyyyy over priced. Im hesitant to buy off of photo based ebay listings because you never know what the coin looks like in person. Im going for blast whiite coins and i can never tell if an ebay photo will live up to itself when i get the coin in my own hands. And there isnt another coin show for like two months amywhere near me. I know you will say save your money for the next two months but i already bave over one hundred dollars and i cant stand not adding to my collection. How would you guys deal with this dilema? Are there any good coin buying wensites besides ebay? Any of you guys selling franklins?
Here you go: http://www.providentmetals.com/coins/silver-coins/half/franklin-half.html Be sure to scroll down for the BU Franklins. There are also several pages. TC
Have you considered checking other forums that have B/S/T listings? There are quite a few Franklin collectors who might have duplicates for sale. Chris
Thanks TC!!! I really respect your input because u are one of the select about four people on here who i think are well experienced and know there stuff. Those coins look great im still just a little uneasy about buying coins that will be picked at random but hey its worth a shot. I can always return them if they are THAT bad haha. Again thanks for the help!
You could always save up and wait for the next show to come around. I've got a MS set of Franklins going too. Only have the 49s and 52s left. I haven't been working on it lately, but when I was, I would buy anywhere from 2 to 4 I needed at every show. I've purchased a few slabbed ones off ebay and cracked them out for the album. You CAN use ebay. But it takes more time than it would at a show. You have to look at a lot of pictures. Most are not good but some will be good enough. Also read the description so you know you're getting what's pictured.
Providentmetals that TC recommended looks pretty reliable but there return policy is a problem. If i open up the box and dont like the coins i cant return them
I have had plenty of success with http://www.harlanjberk.com/. You can see pictures on their site. There are plenty of reputable sellers online. I have not bought any Franklins, but I am sure others can recommend other dealers.
Oh trust me i do not mean to offend anyone because there are many many knowledgable people on here but there are a select few who really stand out in my eyes.
wow, I checked out the last page on the harlan website, there is a PCGS PR66 DCam Morgan from 1898, it blows me away
I bought a lot of nice Unc Franklins on fee-bay at one point, & got some very decent deals. Just look for listings with really good pics of both sides, a return privilege, & sellers with good feedback. Avoid sellers that use generic pics that aren't of the actual coin.
There's a poster in here, FAScoins? who has a well populated site, www.davescoins.com I think you'll find them more than friendly & eager to gain a repeat customer. I know he has tons of franklins, just have to go see for yourself if it is what you're looking for.
my coin dealer has an ebay, iv bought off of him before. hes very good. looks like the picture too. if you scroll down and click on the pic, the pcs get supersized. he has a 1949-s slabbed, ngc certified
sorry forgot to give you the link http://cgi.ebay.com/1949-S-FRANKLIN...53?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item35b3358c35

Franklin Set Purchases As an ongoing buyer of complete Franklin sets on eBay, although grading is subjective, I've been very pleased with the coins received in sets sold by valued sellers having extolling feedback from buyers. I generally found the complete sets (especially Unc.) to have better quality coins then one would expect, or normally receive in circulated(?) rolls. I find that the total investment for a set purchase is appreciably less than that of purchasing the coins individually, and if unsatisfied with some coins, they can be upgraded through trades or individual sales. The caveat for purchasing a set is that one must develop a creative means for financing, or saving. I've found this exercise/discipline to be productive in the process of self development. :thumb:
