Every time I come over and look at you guys coins, I get myself in trouble... Ever since I saw a post with this bust of Alexander with the lionskin headdress, I been foaming at the mouth for one.... Even to the point that I placed several bids on drachms (because I didn't know the difference... Laughter acceptable)...... Well, our very own @lordmarcovan in his typical overly generous way offered me this one which I happily traded with him for. And yes, it is everything I had hoped it would be... Just something about that 3D looking bust of Alexander that melts my butter.

Congrats, Randy, and that's a dandy! This type is on my wish list as well.

That is a beauty for a first Tet. Lovely rev with seated Zeus and a Pegasus

Beautiful coin! The toning really highlights the design. That is a dangerous first ancient- it might get you hooked and addicted... lol

I really like your new Tet, and I would like one in my collection as well. But I thought a thumbs up from Sponge Bob would be significant.

It is "3-D looking" in a slab. Crack it out and it will be real 3-D!

I sold that to Randy at half my cost, out of my own Eclectic Box collection, because he’s been a good friend and done so much for me.

That temporarily leaves me tetradrachm-less, aside from one billon provincial from Roman Alexandria.

Not to worry, though. I’ll get another Alexander tet, and other tetradrachms in general. Already am eyeing and bidding on some contenders.

(PS- no, Randy, I will not let you pay me back the full price. Happy holidays.)

While I disagree with the slab-haters on a number of points (though I confess they also make some valid points of their own), I wouldn’t do that, personally. But you are right that the high relief of these coins is impressive indeed, when one holds a raw one in hand. You certainly couldn’t have stacked them!

Randy, are you like me when I get a new coin of this caliber? I go many nights with it on my nightstand because I look at it right before I go to sleep and right away when I get up. My wife just shakes her head.

Whew, I am so glad I’m not the only one! I was beginning to think I might need a therapist.
