Nice CBH! Is that a raw coin? I am in the market for a colorfully-toned CBH PCGS or NGC graded AU or higher. They're impossible to find.
The coin has a lot of color, unfortunately it is covered with a large plastic reflector making it almost impossible to get a clear, colorful image without a blinding glare spot. It is in a PCGS AU53 holder. Here are the original sellers images. I couldn't duplicate the color, but managed to make the slab look fairly invisible.
Beautiful half, I like your photos better than the seller's. Nice coins on this thread lately; I can't keep up with it!
Difficult, but not impossible. Be patient. And when the right one comes along don't hesitate to pay a premium. It will come back to you. I bought this 1834 on ebay a couple of years ago. Nothing tough about the variety. But it has splendid eye appeal. The 1823 came from David Lawrence a few years ago. Another high AU but it has the most amazing cartwheel luster and stunning color. Lance.
Those images are seriously juiced. The telltale sign is the normally grey with a sight purple tinge holder is blue. Typical of saturation enhancement.
I bought this PCGS MS63 $5 Liberty Head gold coin recently. I liked the "less messed with" surfaces that show that tangerine/gold color with a nice bit of color variation. So many gold coins have been dipped to a more uniform single color. The color variation makes this coin more interesting in my opinion. This is still a darn nice design. Got a great deal on it too (bought it for 80% of the PCGS price guide price).
picked a pair of franklins sun. an 1958-P ANACSMS-65 and 1955-P PCGSMS-64 for 60$$...cant post pics for now though...
That explains why I wasn't able to duplicate it, Mike. There is definitely some color on the coin, but with it being inside the holder, the glare was just too much to over come. Maybe a TrueView is in order.
