Hey guys. Post some pics of any reverse proofs you may have. I find them exceedingly interesting and pretty. Thanks in advance! -Ryan
What's a reverse proof? A coin that's poorly struck with little detail? I can't think of anything else that'd be the opposite of a proof..
Definition: A reverse proof coin is a coin that is struck in the same manner as a normal proof coin, except that the fields are frosty and the raised devices are mirror-like. http://www.reverseproof.com/
A reverse proof is a coin on which the fields are frosted and the design is mirrored. This is the reverse of a regular proof, on which the fields are mirrored and the design is frosted.
And they tend to be somewhat pricey: http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_from=R...&_nkw=reverse+proof&_sacat=See-All-Categories
That's what mine looks like. They all look the same. This was a method of striking they did on the ASEs and AGEs in 2006 for the 20th anniversary of those bullion coins. NGC gave them special, 20th anniversary labels. To the best of my knowledge, I think those are the only reverse proofs they ever made. They did make regular MS and PFs in 2006 too.
Vess is indeed correct. The only reverse proofs issued by the US Mint were produced back in '06 in the form of ASE's and AGE's. A rather poor shot of my ASE.....
American Platinum Eagle...I think they made a 10th Anniversary set in 2007 that had a reverse proof in it. Edit: Found them...http://coins.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_...kw=&_osacat=39486&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313
Wow, cool! I didn't realize they made one of those too. That's an awesome coin but I think the AGEs are the most amazing. I'd probably get one of them before I'd get the platinum.
I'm honestly kind of on the same page. I think they are ugly too (at least the pictures are...I have never seen one in person). That said, I really do want one in my collection because it is different. But, I greatly prefer the normal style proof.
Nah, not ugly. Just out of the ordinary. I've got a Britannia that's labled as an uncirculated, but I'd swear it's a reverse proof. I'll try to get some pictures of that, along with a better shot of my eagle, up tomorrow.
I traded one of my 2001 (2 coin ) Silver Buffalo sets for the 3 coin 2006 set about a year ago. Buffalo set cost $ 59 from the mint in 2001!
