I returned a phone to Wal Mart yesterday and got a 45P nickel in change. It'd grade VG. Kinda surprised to find a coin with 35% silver in change! Anybody else ever find a wartime nickel in change and how hard is it to find one in circulation?
Hello bga27, try getting some rolls from your bank and go through them and see what you find. There isn't any guarantee you will find anything good but you can never tell what will be there. I've dug out a few war time nickels out of rolls before.
found 44 d Funny you should post this link. I was cleaning out my wifes car a couple of days ago, and found a 44 D nickel in her floor board. I asked her about it, but she hasn't a clue when she got it or where. I'd judge it to be only G. But still it is a cool find. JonySky
I have only ever found one War nickel in change...but it took me about a year. A few years ago I was cleaning out my car and noticed that the loose change jar I keep in the slot under the arm rest was pretty full. I dumped it out to count it and noticed a nickel with a big 'P' over Monticello! I was happy that I caught it, but surprised that I didn't notice it before. I usually scan all my change, as most coin collectors do. Of course, my wife could have put it there, lol. According to the chart shown HERE the current value of the silver in your war nickel is about 59 cents, so good find! (That chart is pretty cool. It's sort of at the bottom of the page and shows how much the silver is worth in different denominations when silver is at different prices) Edited to add: Jonysky, that's funny, your post wasn't there when I started typing this. I guess cars are good places to find war nickels, lol. Everyone should go out and check theirs!
