moneyer12 i just love UK coins.......

i may be wrong but it looks like a scottish coin due the the lion rampart on the reverse. then it would be a john baliol penny, but as i said i could be wrong.........due to the amount of wear.

i thought about scotland and found no match the rampant lion is used later , after 1500 , this looks like a 13-14th century coin

John Baliol coins have a bust left (here i think its front facing) and a reverse with a cross and four stars at angles (Seaby 5065 to 5075)
shame cos John Baliol would have been a nice find.
    here s one for comparison

because of the wear etc etc, the coin looks older than it actually is, i am checking my catalogue of scottish coins for a match for you.

    scottishmoney Buh bye

It is not Scottish. Not with a "Johan" on it, and a lion rampant on the reverse. As mentioned above, the lion was not used until early in the 15th century. Also the legends are too neat for a Scottish coin of the 13th century, they tended to be a bit cruder. John's coins were quite crude by comparison to earlier the issues of Alexander III. I am also not sure that the depiction on the reverse is even a lion, enough of the fabric of the design is gone that it is difficult to determine what it indeed is.

    that s what i thought.

i thought the shield could be Portuguese but there are no coin issued in portugal similar to this one.

this leaves france and germany, let s hope someone recognizes it
