need id on this token, possibly early US or colonial

any idea what this is ?
it shows a plant and a date 16?9 (1679 -89 -99)

reverse is completely worn

i thought it could be an early colonial token maybe US or latin america.

Sorry Rick, it doesn't look to be a U.S. colonial, but I'm not sure about Latin America. It's really hard to tell what it is because of the wear / corrosion.
