Hey new member. I have this 1965 quarter, but it's not like anything I've seen. I'll post a picture because its hard to describe Anyone have any idea how much it might be worth? or even seen this before? Thanks
The coin is damaged. It is worth 25 cents. The 'S' is a counterstamp someone stamped into the coin for some unknown reason. There are some people who collect counterstamped coin but the counterstamped coins they collect are generally from the 19th Century.
Counter stamped coins can be pretty cool. Check out my Franklin Half Dollar and Lincoln Cent. May not have any added value. But they are unique. Focusing too much on monetary value take the fun out of collecting.
What would be super interesting is if all those coins shown above had RAISED lettering or face. What then?
For a while back in the '60s and maybe later, they were marketing those Lincoln-Kennedy cents with a list of coincidences between the Lincoln and Kennedy assassinations. I think some of those cents were pasted to a strip of paper that listed the coincidences. There were also cardboard containers that held both the cent and the half dollar.
Hey, let's gather up all the San Fran ASEs made this year and put an S exactly like that on them so we know the 'rare' ones!
