Any ideas what the following Canadian Mint Sets are worth???

    1968
    1973
    1976

I picked up a ""Coins"" magazine today partially because it had a banner at the top that said, "Canadian Coin Price Guide"... It like all kinds of Canadian coins, but no sets...

Also, did they make Proof sets somewhat like the US Mint???

There is more than one kind of mint set. I am assuming they are proof-like sets -just the six coins sealed in plastic. If that is the case and they contain the common variety coins ( 1968 & 1973 have more valuable varieties) then the values are: 1968 $10.00
    1973 $6.00
    1976 $5.00

    Values in $CDN

    Bill, thanks for the response...

The ones I'm refering too (three dates listed) I think they are just plain Mint Sets not Proof, like just uncirculated and sealed in plastic from the mint... Though if shinny and bold enough, I giess they could be Proof Like....

I picked them up on e-bay for my daughter... She is really into Lincolns, Mercury Dimes, and Canadian coins of all sorts...

So, I thought it'd be cool to get her a few mont sets so she could have an example of most if the coins they spend up there... I think I paid 3.25 each for two and 4.25 for one... I was just trying to see if I paid too much for them...

Its less than 15 bucks so if it makes her happy, its worth it...

I just found the ""Royal Canadian Mint" site and was looking at a 2006 Proof set, wow 84.00 I think it was... Proud of that aren't they.. :)

The sets you have are called "proof-like" sets and the values I gave you are correct. The $84.00 set is called a "Prestige Proof Set" and is vastly different from the sets you have in both coin quality and presentation.I just read in Canadian Coin News that the price is going up to $89.95 on May 1.I buy one every year, it's an extravagance but I really like them.

I would like to offer a little advice, as to your 1973 set.
With the .25 piece there is a large and a small bust variety.
In 73 a new obverse was made with a more detailed portrait but fewer rim beads and placed farther from the rim.
There were some that were struck with with the 72 obverse thus creating 2 varieties.
If the beads around the obverse are the same as the reverse you most likely have a large bust. If the beads are away from the rim on the obverse it would be a small bust.

Your advice is great to offer, but I just wanted to let you know that this thread is from 2006. :) It happens a lot, and sometimes reviving an old thread is helpful.

    And, Welcome to Coin Talk!

I have a 1968 Canadian mint set that's missing the quarter and dime. Value?
